To celebrate the Albanese Government’s new Cheaper Home Battery Rebate, Queensland Solar & Lighting has released a brand-new illustrated children’s book:
The Mighty Solar Battery — a fun and timely story that shows how a solar battery can keep the lights on when the grid goes down.
The book is a follow-up to the company’s first release, The Mighty Solar Panel, and once again blends energy education with local flavour. Set in a familiar-sounding Brisbane radio studio, the story follows a trio of breakfast show hosts who are left powerless after a cyclone sweeps through the city — until help arrives from an unexpected phone call and a rooftop solar system that just needs a battery to kick into action.
We are proud to announce that we have beaten the Brisbane radio station B105′, and their presenters Stav, Abby and Matt to the Children’s book that they had been writing.

A Story to Help Brisbane Families Understand Battery Power
As the city sits in blackout, a phone call from “Albo” lets the radio crew know the new rebate is live — and encourages them to back up their existing solar system with a battery. Soon, a local installer (loosely based on author and solar installer Alan Kemp) arrives with a Growatt solar battery, powers the studio, and gets the crew back on-air so they can finish writing a children’s book of their own.
“It’s a playful way to explain a real-world problem,” says Kemp. “Batteries are no longer some futuristic gadget — they’re what keeps your fridge running and your lights on when the power goes out. With the rebate now live, it’s the perfect time to talk about it.”

Free Copies for Solar Customers
The Mighty Solar Battery is available on Amazon. However, Queensland Solar & Lighting customers who install a solar or battery system in 2025. Copies will be gifted after install, and a downloadable version will be made available via the company’s website soon.
Schools, community centres and libraries are also encouraged to get in touch if they’d like copies to share.
